Baby Hip Carrier

http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=11342

23 pound Payson and I NEED this. His legs are too chunky to comfortably fit in a sling, and I'm loving how easy and adjustable it is. Add it to the list...

Baby Quilt - "Casserole" Style

Last night Susan and I decided to make a baby quilt for a baby shower that was at 9:30 this morning. I'm still hooked on the free motion quilting and have been wanting to try another one. So at 8 pm we began.

This one has 3 inch and 5 inch squares that are appliqued on. That part went together very quickly. The tricky part was the free motion because all the squares are just stitched with a 3/16 raw edge. So every time I went on to the little squares, I had to lift the presser foot because it would catch under the raw edge!

We both love the way it looks with the denim and lime green. It was fun and turned out great for the four and a half hours we put in.

Fun wrist corsage project by Dan and friends

This is the corsage Dan made for Brooke. Her dress is cream with black accents.
The boys got together after mutual the other night, with moms and made these flowers and then put them together into wrist corsages for their dates to Homecoming. They are made from chiffon, organza, taffeta, and other various fabrics. They did them using the method we learned from Gretchens blog.
And the links she has on her blog which are here and here.

The boys did almost everything, from choosing fabric, to singing (burning) edges of the fabric for petals with a candle, to creating the bracelets, and then assembling the corsages. The moms really were just there as needle-and-thread directors. It was fun! and it will be easy for the girls to dis-assemble them to wear as hair flowers and as bracelets.

This is Kevin's.

This is (part of) McLain's.

Photo Board

I saw this fun idea here and had to make one. I made this one for a teacher appreciation gift. The pictures attached are to help the teacher know what it is for. I hope the teacher will put new pictures on it! It was easy and cheap with a frame from DI and scrap piece cuts from Lowe's. And clips from the Dollar store.

Andrew's Dragon

So Scot was helping Andrew survive Stake Conference yesterday. They took turns drawing and adding lines and circles. This is their final masterpiece. I thought it was so cute I wanted to make it into a pillow. The pillow is not finished yet, but I couldn't wait to share.

Headboard Tutorial

This looks like a fun project to try. The creator said she built this headboard for under $30 using old kitchen cupboard doors! This is amazing! Now I just need to find some doors.

I tried the free motion quilting!

Michelle posted a tutorial on free motion machine quilting a while ago. I decided to give it a try. It is so much fun, and quite fast. Perhaps it was fast because I did my free forms larger than the tutorial instructed. My blocks are 6 inch squares. I did a couple practice pieces, then decided to give it a go. Once you have a little practice, the motion becomes easier.

I made a couple baby size quilts for humanitarian, and then this one was a gift. It isn't flawless, but I really like the results. It took me about 3 hours to piece and freehand and bind. It was much fun! The tutorial said that a regular sewing machine can only handle up to a crib size quilt. I completely agree; It was a bit of a wrestling match. I'm ready to try another!

Wall Art

I want to make two of these in the kids' room so bad. I think that it would be fun for them to pick out the fabric themselves and then hang them on their walls by their beds. It is so easy too!! I love it. It would be fun to do one for every season and put up somewhere as well. Maybe I could make a huge one for the kitchen wall above the table...hmm, I will think on that one. The tutorial is over at Blue Cricket.
